I find myself struggling to find professional conferences that really seem to meet the needs of leaders in the church. I have been to dozens of conferences all over the world and rarely come away with tangible ideas and challenges that translate to a Monday morning. I went to Story last year in Chicago and heard some great innovators and thinkers…many of whom are not in church leadership. This year Story has an amazing line-up of real-world thinkers that are far outside the bounds of the Church. This is good for those of us who might find ourselves buried in church minutia.
I’m planning on being at Story this September 23-24 interviewing one of the greatest thinkers in film and screenwriting, Richard Walter (distinguished professor from UCLA). I had the opportunity to visit Richard Walter, with some of my colleagues Tim Abare and Chuck Allen, about 18 months ago at UCLA. Richard talked with such depth and understanding about faith and Jesus while not claiming to be a follower of Jesus.
